Bio:
Torsten W. Kuhlen is a full professor and the head of the Virtual Reality and Immersive Visualization Group at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. His research interests include all areas of Virtual Reality with a focus on immersive data analysis in scientific and technical applications as well as the design and evaluation of 3D, multimodal human computer interfaces. He has coauthored about 250 research papers and served as program chair, program committee member, and general chair for various renowned conferences on Virtual Reality, Computer Graphics, and Visualization.

Abstract Summary:An authoring environment for artistic creation in VR enables the effortless conversion of 2D images into 3D objects. Artistic elements are extracted and relief sculpting is performed by mixing height maps generated from the input image. The tool is showcased in an analog-virtual workflow in collaboration with a traditional painter.
